Review of Asus Eee PC 1000H

With each and every release from Asus is a big event in the netbooks’ market. Here comes the Asus Eee PC 1000H which is the largest of the Asus netbooks. Just like its predecessor, the Eee PC 1000H has a 1.6-GHz Intel Atom processor, a 1.3-megapixel webcam and 1GB of RAM. It comes with a bigger 10-inch screen, a bigger keyboard and an even bigger hard drive at the capacity of 80GB. At the price of $649, we certainly wished it was lower considering the fact that there are other netbooks available cheaper than that.
Specifications
CPU type: Intel Atom
Graphics: Intel GMA 950
OS: Windows XP Home
Display Size: 10″ 1024 X 600
RAM: 1024 MB
Hard Disk: 160 GB
Design
It has an updated design from its previous models. The silver hinge and the black-on-silver combination have been improved and that makes it look better. We find this netbook quite big and large compared to the other netbooks. It measures 10.5 x 7.5 x 1.0 to 1.5 inches and weighs 3.2 pounds with its 10-inch display screen. The 10-in display features the resolution of 1024 x 600. Below the display is where the spacious keyboard is. The screen works well from a couple of viewing angles but the colors slightly disappoint. There’s a 1.3-megapixel webcam that is excellent to be used with instant messaging applications. It comes with Dolby Sound Room stereo speakers that are located at the bottom of the Eee PC 1000H. Sound is loud enough to be heard without headphones. Nevertheless, the Dolby Sound Room comes with the Dolby Headphone technology.
Keyboard
This keyboard is the largest one from the Asus’s catalogue of netbooks. It feels nice to type in documents by not accidentally typing something else. Somehow we don’t like the sound coming out from typing the keys. The trackpad is spacious as well with its left and right buttons which are quite hard to press. We like the four buttons above the big keyboard that performs tasks like turning off the monitor, changing the screen’s resolution, the Super Hybrid Engine switcher and the user-definable launch key.
System
The Asus Eee PC 1000H comes with an 80GB Seagate Momentus with a hard drive of 5,400-rpm. The drive is already partitioned into two sections and the system is not slow like its predecessor specially when booting up. Performance-wise, the system performed alright. We have seen the same system on other netbooks notable the MSI Wind and the Eee PC 901. The Eee PC 1000H comes with Windows XP where there are software like Open Office and Microsoft’s Windows Live Suite and the Works suite. Windows Live features Windows Live Mail, Live Messenger, Live Photo Gallery for image viewing and basic editing and Live Writer. There’s also Skype, InterVideo WinDVD, Adobe Reader 8 and ECap which is a webcam program. Windows provides Media Player, Movie Maker and Internet Explorer. Wireless is good with an 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi radio and Bluetooth is also included.
Battery
The battery can last for about four hours or so by handling normal and basic tasks but if used wisely it would last for about six hours. This is better for us considering the other Asus netbooks we have reviewed.
Conclusion
Whenever Asus releases a netbook, they make sure this netbook will have its own audience and with the Eee PC 1000H, it looks that Asus doesn’t have to try hard. It is quite alike to the Asus Eee PC 901. Aside from the confined keyboard, there are still the exact chipset, the 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB, Draft-N Wi-Fi, the multi-touch capable touch pad and the six-cell 6,600 mAh battery. With a spacious keyboard and bigger storage, it’s the perfect choice for businessman. The only downside would be its weight so despite that it’s perfect.

It’s a nice and tiny computer. However, the keyboard is dreadful. I find it very hard to type on. Sometimes I have to type more than once to get the correct word since the keyboard is very small. Apart from that, the Asus Eee PC 1000H is light and easy to carry about.
