TeleNav is sure trying hard to make an impression with their Shotgun GPS. The main attraction here is the internet connection and getting constant updates, such as where can I find the cheapest gas nearby..etc. It’s pricy and it’s missing a lot of features other more expensive navigators feature but it might be worth it?

Reviews:

“Also unlike Dash, they’re starting at $300 right off the bat. Even if you forego the $12/month subscription, it’s still pre-loaded with 11 million points of interest, and the usual TeleNav GPS features. Whether TeleNav’s well-known name will help them out in a market so cutthroat Dash basically couldn’t survive remains to be seen. And uh, honestly, we’re still waiting for that iPhone app.” – Gizmodo

“Overall, the Telenav is a competitive entry with some blemishes and some great strengths; the latter setting it apart from anything on the market today.” – gpslodge.com

“TeleNav is off to a good start with the Shotgun. While I ran across a decent list of things that needed to be touched up, most of those were relatively small issues that can be addressed through software updates.” – gpsreviews.net

Again TomTom comes in with a mixed bag of reviews. Gizmodo is being really harsh and simply puts it TomTom sucks and CNET on the other hand gives it the editors choice. So if you have your eyes on the GO 740 please pay close attention to all the details before rushing out to get one.

Specifications:

Reviews:

“TomTom’s traffic quality is very good, and they clearly have the infrastructure and partnerships to continue to develop a better service. Your choice is to decide if the service is worth enough to fork over about $10 a month for the subscription.” – gpslodge.com

“Lastly, if you think this word picture doesn’t match a 4-star rating, realize that I am leaving out much of what made TomTom a threat to Garmin. TomTom has a lot of things right and I’d only be regurgitating all the positive things you could read on the GO730 and GO720 reviews.” – Amazon

“Anyway, I still find the TomTom UI the best thought out and the 740Live doesn’t disappoint here. I’m sure the problems I’m having are teething issues – however, if you want a rock solid experience and want to rely on the traffic service … I’d wait.” – Amazon

“Gizmodo: Why TomTom sucks
TomTom’s latest Go 740 Live is piled with features, but I’ve tested TomToms for five years, and in that time, nobody has fixed the platform’s inherent problems. In fact they’re only getting worse.” – Gizmodo

“The TomTom GO 740 Live puts a tremendous amount of information at your fingertips and makes it easy to access and process it all from the driver’s seat.” – CNET

The TomTom XL 330S is a GPS that seems to have either quality issues or it’s just a acquired taste because the users and reviewers aren’t in agreement at all times. One issue that seems to come up often is the poor audio quality and volume, so if you know you don’t have the most quiet car perhaps you better look at another TomTom or a GPS from Garmin instead.

Reviews:

“After reading an early favorable review of the TomTom 130s, I was confident that the XL 330s would be just what I was looking for. But after a weeks’ use, however, I am a little disappointed. ” – Amazon

“Stylish, easy to use, and accurate, the TomTom XL 330S is a great all-around GPS but we wish it was just a little cheaper.” – CNET

” Performance is far superior to value oriented units, and I advocate for the widescreen units and Text-to-speech which you will find on the TomTom ONE XL 330S.” – gpslodge.com

Reviews:

“The nuvi 765T brings a number of important new features that do actually improve the navigation experience, make it easier to see where you’re going, and warrant upgrading from earlier models. Garmin’s new 7×5T series is peerless in terms of ease of use, feature set, reliability, and hardware quality.” – gpsmagazine.com

“Needless to say, I’m pleased with my purchase. The 756t is not cheap right now, and if you can live without the new features, you might be better off with an older unit. That said, if you’re looking for a gps device with all of the latest features and compatibility, this seems to be a solid pick.” – Amazon

Reviews:

“The TomTom GO 730 is a good choice for someone who wants a feature-rich GPS that they can customize. It is not appropriate for people who get lost in menus or just want a simple, easy to operate device.” – gpstracklog.com

“A year ago when we reviewed its predecessor, the Go 720, we lauded its lovely design and then cried a salty ocean of tears because the high price meant that its buggy feature set were unforgivable. This year, though, we’ve been able to turn off the water works for the most part: the price is sane and the features debugged. The only thing holding the Go 730 back from greatness is that godforsaken windshield mount.” – CNET

“I am tired of spending money on accessories just to bring the unit up to what it should have been. If I could redo this purchase, I would get a Garmin. I know they aren’t perfect either, but the Tomtom just isn’t pulling its weight for the price paid.” – Amazon

“As entry-level GPS navigators go, the Garmin Nuvi 255W is still one of the best choices available for anyone who wants speedy performance without breaking the bank.” – CNET

“All in all this isn’t the cheapest GPS in its class but it’s one of the best. My only gripe is you need an expensive add-on to get live traffic data–something that’s included with the Magellan Roadmate 1430 which is close to the same price. But the Garmin 255W is a better GPS in every other way.” – Amazon

“The Garmin nuvi 255W is a joy to use. I recommend it, or any other member of the nuvi 2×5 series, without hesitation. Garmin has set a new standard with this product line; the nuvi 2×5 series is the best entry level GPS on the market.” – gpstracklog.com
